Eggs at last!

The ladies are back in Business!

more eggs

My hens have begun to produce eggs again – at last.  After a few months sabbatical, the ladies are turning up the soil, readying it for early spring sowing.  The beauty of their place in a garden is not lost on me.  They are the hardest working members of the whole fam-damily. Truly, they do all the heavy lifting with just a few bits of scratch and feed as incentive.  The worms in the garden were surprised to find the ladies eagerly turning the beds for any signs of life. Protein for them today, pays me in eggs tomorrow, so I don’t mind the sacrifice of a few earthworms.

What a joy it is to know that I am just a few steps away from my next delicious “harvest” without the long wait that a garden requires. I won’t even go into the joy l get just from watching the ladies run around.  Dreamworks really captures the personality of chickens in their movie Chicken Run.  They are cheapest therapy I have found.

Now the question that begs an answer is “what to do with the excess eggs?”  I’m never industrious enough to wax and preserve eggs for the off-season (maybe next winter), so I just channel my inner Forrest Gump and search for all things egg related.  Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, deviled eggs, egg , hard-boiled eggs, soft-boiled eggs…..

What is your favorite egg recipe?

  2. Hey there Donna! I just realized I hadn’t responded to your comment. I went to your site to find your chicken recipe and got lost among all the awesome going on over there! Years ago, I made all my creams and cleaners. I even made a sandlewood deodorant that was pretty awesome. You’ve inspired me to give a try again.

Did you find out about by-laws? You should check out McMurrary Hatchery even if you’re only “window” shopping.

  3. Hello there Betty! I used to think they were too much trouble, but now I really enjoy making deviled eggs. Do you have a special recipe?
