If you have anxiety and frustration around the fear of failure. You are in the right place.  We’ve all heard the saying Fake it ’til you make it, right? I’ve tried that for years and..

I felt like a fraud.  I don’t want to fake it anymore.   If you are like me, take a listen to this episode and see if we can make it together

If you listened to episode 8, where I talked about confidence,  you might feel that the idea of I am likable and exude confidence, is still incongruent with  feelings of self-doubt and self-deprecating habits.  I feel you.

I had to change my course and am onboard with finding ways to align my mind to my actions.

Before I go further, I want to suggest that if you haven’t already spoken to a medical professional, you owe it to yourself to try. By now the stigma of needing help should be all but gone.  Remember the need to talk about it…with a professional and getting help is no different than needing glasses to focus.  WE just need a little help to focus.  I was opposed to medications because my can do attitude ( thanks ADD) was getting in the way of my cross wires and need for medication…I am a real DIYer like many people with ADD.. it’s a real catch 22

Okay, back to the show…Fear or failure is such a regular on my mental recorder. It generally results in feelings of frustration or low self-worth. It isn’t because I’m not capable of success, but the fear of failing is just really big.

I mentioned in a previous episode that I had spent 36 hours working on a knitting project. You might remember that.

Well, for those of you who are old enough to remember Paul Harvey: now you know The Rest of the Story

Results:

  1. It wasn’t as bad as I thought.  It rarely is. Fear anxieties are interesting in that if we can step back and access the real danger we can choose to respond appropriately. What’s the worst that can happen?
    • Three types of fear you might encounter:
      • Fear of making mistakes—you will survive most people don’t even notice. (Remember the Front page of the newspaper exercise).
      • Is this going to make someone upset or angry?  Are you acting in honesty and kindness? If so, you can address the issue with honesty. It might lead to better relationships.
      • Is it going to result in physical pain or death?  Don’t do it.
  2. I work best under pressure.  Our Spontaneity and impulsivity can be used for good.  Use these traits to our best advantage.
  3. I learned from the experience..  I learned that I work best at night when there are fewer distractions, I learned that I can focus on a project and see it to fruition.  I learned that Jim can get pretty creative in a pinch too. Less likely to get into a rut or become bored
  • I survived.

Try this: Do something brave today. Do something that you have been afraid to try.

Post about it when you are done, if you dare.
